Enter My Silence – Remotecontrolled Scythe

Enter My Silence is a Finnish band who plays American style melodic death metal, which essentially means that they gobble up Gothenburg convention and regurgitate it into something that’s much less annoying.  You could generally say the music on ‘Remotecontrolled Scythe’ sounds like basic modern melodic death metal, you know, with those small hints of industrial and modern rock influences.  No keyboards though; just lots of little lead guitar parts that sound remarkably like keyboards.  So I guess that’s good for the people who can’t stand keys.

There’s not a lot in the way of blasting or double bass, just a lot of rolling rock beats.  To be honest, this sort of music sounds more like heavy metal than ‘death metal’, so I guess maybe it’s closer to Gothenburg than I thought.  Much of the riffing is modern rock/metal based, and apart from some extra speed, a metallic production, and rasped vocals, I don’t see this as being distinctly ‘extreme’ music.  Not to say that it’s bad, though.  Enter My Silence crafts some amazingly catchy melodeath on this release.  Every song has some great riffs, melodies, and song structures; it’s just that it’s done very traditionally and deeply within the established paradigm of this sort of music, so there’s not much to talk about.

It’s very well produced and played, as you would probably expect.  It’s not unique.  It does nothing new.  It’s a lot of fun though!  I like listening to this more than a lot of the other stuff I own; it’s a very ‘bread and butter’ album as I call them, the kind you can put on at essentially any time and enjoy a lot.  If you like modern melodic death metal like I do, you’ll probably like this a lot.  It’s nothing mindbending but it’s immensely competent.
